Apply for a new vehicle licence

We now offer an online application service for new or renewal of both Private Hire vehicle licences.

For both private hire and hackney carriage vehicle renewals, an email will be sent 6 weeks before expiry of the current licence.

Please ensure that the vehicle you wish to licence is fully compliant before starting your application for a new vehicle licence.

All vehicles must:

• have valid insurance to carry fare paying passengers. If the vehicle is new (not a renewal), proof of insurance must be provided at least 72 hours prior to the vehicle test date. 
• have valid road tax
• have a plate bracket fitted
• Private Hire vehicles must have approved operator decals and front and rear window visors fitted

Please do not use this form for the exchange of vehicles, instead email taxi.testing@bradford.gov.uk with your requirements.

Documentation

The following documents will be required to support your application:

• V5C (Logbook pages 2 and 3), green slip or invoice if you have recently purchased the vehicle and do not have an up to date logbook. This information will be required during the application.
• Insurance. New vehicles may apply without insurance in place but you must ensure that we receive a copy of a valid insurance certificate at least 72 hours prior to the arranged vehicle test date. If not received then plates for the vehicle will not be available to collect in the workshop – they will be posted out to the proprietor's address.
