Organ donation – Help save up to nine lives

In the past five years, 15 people from Bradford district died while waiting on the waiting list for an organ transplant. In the last year, 41 people from the district received a vital transplant.

Although the number of new organ donors is slowly increasing and waiting lists are reducing, on average three people die every day in the UK while waiting for an organ transplant because there still aren’t enough donors. There are currently around 6,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant across the UK.

We’d like to encourage you to think about signing up to become an organ donor and help save the life and reduce the wait for people in need of life-saving transplants.

You can find out more about organ donation on the NHS organ donation website.

If you choose to become an organ donor it’s vital to speak with your family and get their support beforehand. Fewer than half of families agree to donation going ahead if they are unaware of their loved one’s decision to be a donor. This rises to over nine out of ten when the decision to be an organ donor is known.  Words save lives. Tell your family you want to save lives through organ donation.
