Litter thrown from cars is a major problem. Research shows:
- 23% of people are likely to litter from their car.
- Cigarette litter is the UK’s biggest litter issue, found on 78% of streets.
- Vehicle littering often happens in quiet traffic or when people feel anonymous.

Fast food litter
A quarter of Britain’s streets have litter from food cartons, drink cans, and pizza boxes.
If litter is linked to a business (for example, a takeaway, cinema, sports centre, service station), the Council can work with them to reduce waste.
