Using the garden waste service

About the service

  • The service runs from 1 June 2024 to 31 May 2025
  • There will be no garden waste collections after 20 December 2024 for four weeks. Garden waste collections will start again on 21 January 2025. Please check the website for your collection dates.
  • You will get 12 collections, one every four weeks
  • You need a valid bin sticker for each brown bin you want emptying
  • If you need an extra brown bin, this will cost £40 per year
  • Bins without a garden waste sticker will not be emptied

What can I put in my garden waste (brown) bin?

Please put these items into your bin loose and do not use plastic bags.

Yes please

  • grass cuttings
  • leaves and bark
  • twigs and small branches (cut into small pieces)
  • tree and hedge clippings
  • garden plants and dead flowers
  • weeds (but not giant hogweed or Japanese knotweed)

No thanks

  • large branches
  • turf, earth, soil, stone and gravel
  • food, including fruit and vegetable peelings
  • dog and cat faeces
  • pet bedding and straw
  • plant pots and seed trays
  • wire or plastic plant ties
  • glass, metal, cardboard, plastic and plastic bags

Report a lost, damaged or stolen bin sticker

You must report a lost, damaged or stolen bin sticker as soon as possible by calling 01274 431000.

We will send you a replacement bin sticker.

Report a broken bin

We will repair bins free of charge.

To tell us that your bin needs repairing, please fill in our online form.

A member of our crew will come and carry out the required repairs.

Cancel your garden waste collection service

You can cancel your subscription at any time during the year contact us on 01274 431000.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund.

If you decide not to re-subscribe to the Garden Waste Collection Service we will arrange to collect the bin so this can be reused due to the increasing demand for this service.

I share my garden waste (brown) bin with my neighbour

One of you will have to arrange to subscribe to the service.

We will only empty bins from the registered address.

You can then sort out payment between yourselves. We will not get involved in any arrangements or disputes neighbours may have.

What happens if I move house?

The garden waste subscription is only valid for the property it was originally purchased for and is non-transferable. For more information see the terms and conditions.
