Health and Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee

The Committee is responsible for scrutinising the Council’s strategies, plans, policies, functions and services directly relevant to the Corporate Priorities ‘supporting and safeguarding the most vulnerable adults, children and families’ and ‘reducing health inequalities’.

It also scrutinises local NHS policy and planning, and the impact that these have in meeting local needs and reducing health inequalities.

The Council may agree with one or more local authorities to establish a joint health Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Scrutiny investigation: Domiciliary Care

The Committee has decided to carry out a detailed examination of domiciliary care in particular the implications of the £12.50 fee for standard domiciliary care per hour.

Domiciliary care is the term given to services delivered in or from a person’s home and is often referred to as ‘home care’. The tasks often described as being undertaken include housework, laundry, shopping, cooking, administration of medicines, feeding and personal care.

The investigation took place on Wednesday 7 and Friday 9 January 2015.
