Weighbridges

Bradford Council operates two weighbridges where the public can weigh vehicles.

  • Our weighbridges are full length weighbridges
  • Minimum weight 400kg
  • Maximum weight 50,000kg
  • Weighing vehicle Gross and Tare weights only

Our bridges are unable to weigh individual axles on vehicles. If you require axle weights please use the GOV.UK website.

What is a public weigh?

It is a legal requirement that all drivers ensure that the vehicle they are driving is not overloaded.

If you suspect that your vehicle is near or over its maximum loaded weight you can weigh it yourself on an accredited weighbridge. You can then keep the receipt in case you are stopped.

What can I weigh?

You can weigh

  • HGV vehicle up to 50,000kg, rigid, articulated and drawbars (max wheel base 15m)
  • vans and pickups with or without trailers
  • cars, caravans and motor homes
  • motorbikes, trikes and and three wheelers

You cannot weigh

  • individual vehicle axle weights
  • car tow bar load weights
  • static loads not on or in vehicles.
  • vehicles less than 400kg

What do I need to do if I want to weigh a vehicle at one of the Bradford Council sites?

We advise that you do not visit the weighbridge during the peak times which are shown below. The weighbridges are used by Bradford Council vehicles, and those vehicles take priority over a public weigh.

Please call the weighbridge you want to attend before setting off to ensure that it is open.
