Contact from the Council Tax Team

We are using a new system to contact residents. Reasons the team may need to contact you include:

  • asking you to sign up to paperless bills for Council Tax.
  • you may be behind on your Council Tax payments
  • asking you to report any household changes that may affect your Council Tax bill
  • asking you to confirm you are still eligible for a Single Person Discount (known as an SPD review)

How will the team contact residents?

  • General queries: we may send you a voice message, an SMS text message or an email.
  • If we are asking you to confirm you are still eligible for Single Person Discount (SPD), we will send you an SPD review email.
  • If we are asking you to sign up to paperless bills, we will send you a paperless bill email or SMS text message.

I have been contacted – how do I know if this is genuine or not?

If you are in doubt as to whether a message or email is genuinely from the Council Tax service, you can call the team on 01274 437792.

Scam alert - be aware of scam emails or text messages

Be aware of scam emails or text messages pretending to be from the council and stating you have an outstanding Council Tax bill to pay. Its not always easy to tell whether the communication is from the council or scammers, so if in doubt, please contact us.
