Supported employment - Employment Matters

If you are a Bradford resident aged 18+ Autistic or have a learning disability, we can help you learn new skills and support you to find a job and thrive in the workplace.

The support we provide includes

  • Support from a job coach
  • Help to find out what kind of job you would like to do
  • Training so you can build skills that employers’ value
  • Travel training
  • Job searching tips
  • Opportunities to meet local employers that offer work experience, taster shifts or working interviews
  • Support to write your CV and prepare for interviews
  • Support at interviews
  • In work support to help you learn the role and feel confident

To apply for support

  • You must not be in paid employment
  • Not on any other employment scheme
  • Not in full time education

If you have a social worker they can refer into the scheme for you.

What happens next?

The project manager will arrange a meeting to provide further information about the scheme and if the scheme is right for you then you will be referred to United Response for a job coach.

If you feel the scheme isn’t right for you or you don’t meet the criteria you will be supported to find other employment support services.

Our service is part-funded by the UK government’s Local Supported Employment (LSE) scheme.

We work with United Response who deliver job coach support.

Into Employment

This is a 12-month programme for young adults who live in the Bradford district aged between 16 and 25 with a disability.

The programme provides:

Support for 12 students starting each September to help build the skills they need on their journey to employment.

  • Training, skills, qualifications and work experience to increase employability
  • Students spend typically 5 days a week at SORM – the school of rock and media covering modules in life skills (this will be reduced to 3 days a week when placements start)
  • Starting from November students will spend 2 days a week on a work placement which matches their interests and skills.
  • Job coach support during work placements
  • When students exit the programme, they are supported to continue on their journey to employment which might be, in further education, applying for jobs and supported into work following their goals and future employment needs.

The Into Employment Lead will contact you for a discussion and if the programme is right for you, they will invite you to look around SORM and meet the team.

If the programme is not right for you or you don’t meet the criteria we can provide information for other employment support.

Skills House Bradford

What is it?

Skills House Bradford is a one-stop service that connects people with training, education and employment opportunities across the Bradford District. It brings together local employers, training providers, schools, and support services to help residents develop the skills they need for work and career progression.

Who is it for?

Skills house is for anyone living in Bradford who wants to:

  • Find a job or change career
  • Access training or further education
  • Get support with CV’s, interviews, or job applications
  • Improve their skills for work or career progression

Access to work

What is access to work?

Access to work is a government scheme that helps people with a disability, health condition, or mental health issue to do their job.

It can help pay for:

  • Special equipment or software
  • Support workers or job coaches
  • Help with travel to work if you can’t use public transport
  • Changes to your workplace to make it easier for you

Who is it for?

Access to work is for people who:

  • Have a disability or health condition (including mental health)
  • Are 16 or older
  • Live in England, Scotland, or Wales
  • Have a job interview or work trial, have a paid job, or self employed

You don’t need to be getting benefits to apply.
