Guide for parents

Starting secondary school in 2024

The guides on this page tell you about the secondary schools in the district and how you can find out more about them. They explain how Education Services deal with your request for your child to transfer from primary to secondary school, and give advice about how you can get financial help with paying for travel or clothing.

Before you make your decision, it’s a good idea to visit some of the schools, read their individual school booklets or visit the schools’ websites. You can find schools near your postcode using the School Finder.

You should consider carefully how your child will get to and from the school(s) you apply for before you make your application for a school place. Please read the Council’s Home to School Travel and Transport Policy for Children of Compulsory School Age (PDF) before making your decision.

Any parent who wants to find out which school the Council considers to be their nearest school for transport purposes should send an email to schooltravel@bradford.gov.uk. The email should state the child’s name and address, asking what the Council considers to be the nearest secondary school for transport purposes to that address.
