Clean Air Zone grant funding for Bradford residents and local businesses and organisations

The Bradford Clean Air Zone has been live since September 2022 and is operating to improve air quality in the district by deterring the most polluting vehicles from entering the zone. Air pollution levels in Bradford have been found to be too high with damaging impacts on the health of residents.

To further support the upgrade of vehicles, Bradford Council have now extended the eligibility criteria so that Bradford residents can now apply for part of the £10m funding available to LGVs and minibuses.  The funding is available to help residents upgrade their vehicles to meet the Clean Air Zone (CAZ) standards this includes vans, minibuses and motor caravans.

Applications are invited from Bradford district residents for up to £4,500 towards the replacement a LGV or minibus which is not compliant with the Bradford Clean Air Zone standard. You can apply even if you have a current exemption, funds for the residents programme are limited so applications will be assessed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Applications are 1 vehicle per application however if you wish to apply for more than one vehicle, you can submit multiple applications.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said,

“We are pleased to extend our support to help Bradford residents upgrade their non-compliant vehicles by offering up to £4,500 per vehicle in grant funding for LGV’s or minibuses. The funding will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so if you have a vehicle you are considering upgrading take a look at the website and apply for a grant today”

In addition to the new local residents grant scheme, the current Light Goods Vehicle and Minibus grant scheme for local businesses, educational establishments and charities has been updated to allow applications for non-compliant vehicles registered to the applicant up until 14 June 2023. This date extension means that more Bradford businesses are now eligible to apply for a grant.

We would encourage anyone who is unsure if they need to pay or are entitled to grants or exemptions to call the Clean Air Zone team on 01274 435533 which is open Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 5pm and Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm.
