Passenger cars will not be charged

The Bradford Clean Air Zone does not charge passenger cars. We want all those visitors and customers using cars to be reassured that there is will be no charge to travel in the Bradford Clean Air Zone and continue to visit our businesses. We have prepared the following text that you can use in newsletters, emails or conversation.

Bradford has a Clean Air Zone because it has illegal levels of air pollution in several areas around the city.

Passenger cars and motorbikes will not be charged to drive in the Bradford Clean Air Zone. It doesn't matter where you live or if you use them for work. (with the exception of hackney carriages and private hire vehicles)

A passenger car is defined by the DVLA and can be seen on your V5c. It has to be classified as Vehicle type Approval M1 and have the taxation class car.  Please check your vehicle on the Government website.

You do not need to pay if the vehicle you are driving meets the required emission standards.

Privately owned vehicles (motorhomes, vans) which are not used for business purposes with Diesel Euro 6, Petrol Euro 4 or cleaner emission standards are compliant and will not be charged to drive in the Clean Air Zone.

If you are unsure if you will be charged to drive in the Bradford Clean Air Zone, contact the Bradford Council Clean Air team 01274 435533.

Text for your website

To provide information to visitors on your website you can use the following text in your directions or how to find us section:

Bradford has a Clean Air Zone to improve the health of residents and visitors. If you are planning a visit to the Bradford District you may face a daily charge if you drive in the Bradford Clean Air Zone. You do not need to pay if you are driving a passenger car or motorbike.

A 'day' is classified as midnight to midnight, not 24 hours from when you enter the zone. During that midnight to midnight timeframe, you can enter and leave the zone numerous times and only incur a single charge. However if you cross the midnight threshold you will be charged for two days.

Visit the Breathe Better Bradford website to find out more.
