HDRC research
The Bradford Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is committed to enabling Bradford Council to become more research-active, using evidence to inform decision-making through comprehensive research and evaluation.
HDRC Bradford works collaboratively with council members, external partners, and the community to generate, mobilize, and translate data and evidence for informed decision-making. Our focus is on addressing the broader drivers of population health and health inequalities, with a particular emphasis on the needs of disadvantaged groups and areas.
Central to our mission is a commitment to tackling health inequalities and the challenges faced by these communities.
Projects
Analysis of Bradford’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ)
Our team is actively engaged in analysing Bradford’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) in collaboration with the Sustainability team in the Department of Place. This initiative aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the CAZ in improving air quality and public health outcomes and supporting targeted policy changes.
Collaborating with Born in Bradford (BiB)
HDRC Bradford is working closely with Born in Bradford (BiB) to assess the quality and suitability of various air quality monitoring tools used as part of the CAZ. This collaboration ensures that we utilise the most accurate and reliable tools to monitor air quality, providing valuable data to inform policy decisions.
Data acceptance and public involvement
We host additional NIHR funding for the project Exploring public acceptance of the use of administrative data and a co-produced local data system (NIHR160994). This research is a collaboration with BiB Age of Wonder and University of Bradford. We are committed to developing best practices in involving members of the public in our data processes. By co-designing approaches to data collection, use and dissemination, we aim to ensure that our methods are transparent, and that the public has a voice in how data is used and shared.
0-19s framework
Our team is working with Better Start Bradford, Public Health and Bradford District Care Trust (BDCT) to use data sources to develop a comprehensive framework for children and young people aged 0 to 19. This framework aims to support their health and well-being through data-driven insights and targeted interventions.
Developing reporting with Public Health
We are enhancing our reporting capabilities in collaboration with Bradford Council’s Public Health team. This project involves creating detailed reports that provide actionable insights into public health trends and outcomes. These reports then help key decision makers such as heads of services and public health specialists to make strategic decisions.
Adults Social Care
Our team is also focused on improving data practices within Adults Social Care. By leveraging data science techniques, we aim to support colleagues and enhance the quality of care and support provided to adults in our community.
Research approval process
When working with partners and stakeholders on new research projects, we review each new request to ensure that the project being proposed can be carried out ethically, the research question has been properly thought through and we have the resources available to be able to undertake the project. To help us with this, we request that anyone submitting a request to HDRC completes the Research Approval Request From. You can download a copy below.
