Bradford and Airedale Wellbeing Board

The Bradford and Airedale Wellbeing Board is the senior strategic partnership for the Bradford District, bringing together leaders from the Council, the NHS, the Police, Fire and Rescue, social housing and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector. Our shared ambition is:

To provide local democratic accountability for the use of public resources to improve health and wellbeing and reduce health and social inequalities.

The Board provides strategic direction to organisations delivering health and wellbeing services and supporting people to manage their own health. Our aim is to empower individuals to take charge of their health and shape the support they receive. Through this leadership, we seek to deliver meaningful, long-term improvements to the health and wellbeing of our population.

Bradford and Airedale Wellbeing Board has two unique functions:

  1. The Board has a statutory responsibility under the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and is set up as a formal committee of Bradford Council. This establishes specific responsibilities, for example:
    • Ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of our communities by producing the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and working with the local Healthwatch.
    • Working together across the NHS, Public health and Social Care to deliver the most effective use of available resources, enabling needs to be met earlier and more efficiently.
    • Making sure that partners work together to make services available and accessible for those who need them.
    • Involving councillors and patient representatives in shaping decisions about the design, location and delivery of services.
    • Collaborating with healthcare and Wellbeing providers, including hospitals, GPs and the Care Home sector, to understand current Services and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Representing and championing the District in strategic discussions at regional and national levels.
  2. The Board is the senior strategic partnership in Bradford District, leading the family of linked strategic partnerships through which we collectively deliver the outcomes of the Bradford District Plan.
