Bradford is a Purple Flag City
Celebrating a dynamic, safe and vibrant night-time economy
The Purple Flag award acknowledges Bradford’s commitment to supporting the evening and night-time economy across the city centre. The award can only be achieved through collaboration and partnership working, to deliver a joined-up approach to the city centre experience between the hours of 5pm and 5am.
Bradford Council has worked with partners including West Yorkshire Police, Bradford Business Improvement District, retail and hospitality businesses, the University and College, health and faith-based organisations and voluntary sector support organisations to focus on creating a welcoming, safe and vibrant city centre for communities who live, work and visit.
The accreditation is managed by the Association of Town & City Management. As a Purple Flag city Bradford has submitted evidence to meet the five core standards required in excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy.
Bradford has held the award since 2024, and since then the city has undergone a transformative regeneration programme, with new pedestrianised areas, lighting and landscaping schemes adding to the attractiveness of the city centre. Bradford Live is the city’s newest venue, providing a 3,000 seat auditorium in the heart of the city. A wide variety of dining and hospitality venues welcome visitors to the city, including Darley Street Kitchen which combines a street food ambience with regular live music and early evening entertainment.
