Unemployment in Bradford District

The most recent unemployment figures for April 2026 were published by the Office for National Statistics on 19 May 2026.

The data shows that 24,290 people were claiming unemployment benefit in April 2026 - a rate of 6.9% of the working age population an increase of 305 claimants since last month and a decrease of 1,550 claimants since April 2025. 

There were 5,430 claimants aged between 18-24 and 4,485 claimants aged 50+.

Bradford had the highest unemployment rate in the Leeds City Region, most local authorities have seen small increases in their claimant rates in the last month.

The claimant rate for Yorkshire and the Humber was 4.2% and for England was 4.1%.

The unemployment data in the bulletin includes people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance and people claiming Universal Credit who are required to seek work and be available for work.
