Local Highway Maintenance Transparency Report 2026-27
The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed £7.3 billion of long-term highways maintenance funding between 2026-27 and 2029-30 to help local highway authorities plan ahead, adopt more preventative maintenance, and improve the long-term condition of England’s local roads network.
A DfT requirement for 2026-2027 is that all local highway authorities in England publish a Local Highway Maintenance Transparency Report (first implemented in 2025-2026) to ensure that its highways funding delivers safer, smoother and more reliable journeys, and that all authorities spend their funding in line with best practice and on the basis of strong asset management foundations.
