Adventure Development Unit

The Adventure team provide a full range of outdoor learning and adventurous activities for schools, youth groups and community organisations.

Multi adventure courses are available for individuals to book in school holidays.

Based at Baildon Recreation Centre, we have a fully mobile resource of specialist instructors delivering activities on school sites, in local parks and open countryside areas, the Yorkshire Dale and beyond:

  • Problem solving and group initiative tasks ideal for school sites.
  • A mobile climbing tower for school events and community galas.
  • Outdoor learning linked to subject areas.
  • Residential programmes using youth hostels and Dales barns.
  • Camps, expeditions and Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
  • Rock climbing and abseiling.
  • Caving and gorge scrambling.
  • Mountain biking.
  • Hill walking and orienteering.
  • Bushcraft.
  • Archery.

In addition to the above mobile resources we have a specialist water activities and adventure centre at Doe Park:

  • Canoeing, kayaking and raft building.
  • Sailing.
  • High ropes with aerial trek, climbing tower and challenge stations.
  • Outdoor education: pond dipping, nature area and initiative tasks.


The Adventure Activities Development Unit holds the appropriate Adventure Activities Licence for climbing, abseiling, gorge scrambling, caving, mountain walking, kayaking, open canoeing, sailing, and improvised rafting.
