How can I find a home?

You need to use the Bradford Homes website to apply for housing association properties. Bradford Council does not own homes for people to rent.

Bradford Homes website

Before you apply

You must be 16 or older.

You will need:

  • Your National Insurance Number
  • An email address
  • Details of your current accommodation.

How to apply

  1. Register on the Bradford Homes website.
  2. Complete the application form. It should take about 20 minutes, and you can save it and finish later.
  3. Write down your login reference number, memorable date and password as you will need these to log back in to your application.

After applying

You might need to provide documents to prove that you're eligible.

If you ticked any of the housing needs boxes on the 'why you want to move' section of your application you will need to supply extra evidence.

If no documents are needed, you can start looking for homes right away.

Where do I send my documents to?

  1. Log in to your Bradford Homes account. If you have forgotten your password or memorable information, you do not need to call us because you can reset them online.
  2. Upload your documents to your online housing application
  3. email [email protected] when you have done this

If you are unable to do this yourself we may be able to help you.

How to reset your Bradford Homes password

If you have forgotten your password or memorable information, you can reset them online.

Waiting times

There are more people waiting for homes than properties available. Waiting times can be long. We are unable to tell you how long it will take for bidding and matching.

If more than one person wants the same house, it will be given to the person who has been waiting the longest and who has the highest priority banding.

Be aware, you can wait a long time.

You can also apply directly to housing associations for more options.

What do the banding levels mean?

Following an assessment of your needs by the Housing Options Service or Registered Provider partner, applicants will be placed into one of four bands:

The four bands are:

  • Band 1 - Urgent Need - these include households who are owed homeless duty and those whose housing needs arise from other council service priorities / duties.
  • Band 2 – High Need - households in unsuitable housing requiring urgent re-housing
  • Band 3 – Medium Need - households with a band 1, 2, need but with no local connection to the District and households in unsuitable housing but with less serious need than those in Band 2
  • Band 4 – Low Need - Anyone registering on Bradford Homes who does not fit the criteria for Bands 1 to 3

What happens if your priority needs are lowered

If your priority is lowered, you'll get a letter explaining:

  • Why your priority was reduced
  • Your original housing band and your new, lower band
  • How to appeal this decision
  • Steps you need to take to qualify for a higher band again
  • That you must appeal in writing within 21 days
  • That a different senior officer will review your appeal and respond within 8 weeks
