Bradford Council welcomes public contributors

The Bradford HDRC team welcomes public contributors to its coproduction steering group. Dr John Samuel and Nabila Khan joined the steering group as members in December 2024 and attended their first steering group meeting in February 2025 at the Grange Interlink Community centre. Their role is to ensure resident voice is embedded within the decision making of the HDRC.

‘Public Contributor’ is an NIHR term that refers to members of the public that support research projects by providing insights and expertise based on their lived experience.

Nabeela Khan who works at Bradford College has been a volunteer for several years, running weekly girls’ youth groups, organising various arts and crafts sessions and charity projects. She has also supported an NHS research project where she worked with Madrassa’s to produce healthy eating toolkits. She states, “It’s important we look at wider issues affecting health and wellbeing and involve people from all backgrounds in Bradford. I am always interested in helping on projects like this one, sharing my thoughts as a Bradford woman.”

Dr John Samuel has extensive experience of community engagement and involvement in Bradford and elsewhere in both a voluntary/community capacity and also at a professional level. Much of that work has centred around equality, diversity and inclusion. He was also the founder of the West Indian Parents association. John adds, “I have worked with others to form and build community organisations to campaign on issues affecting minoritised and underserved communities and I have served on Boards of Trustees and Boards of Directors across private, voluntary and statutory bodies.”

We are delighted to have Nabeela and John support our work and believe their expertise and experience will be vital in shaping the involvement and coproduction of our work with communities.
