District Strategy and Shared Ambitions
Together with partners the Council has agreed a new District Strategy for 2025 to 2035 which sets out the following vision and shared ambitions:
Our Vision
Our shared vision with partners is for Bradford District to be known as a leader in culture, innovation and sustainability where everyone can live digitally smart, healthy and happy lives, thrive together and share pride in their communities.
Our shared ambitions
- Growth and Regeneration: Growing the economy, creating more and high-quality jobs which will result in more wealth for everyone meaning that individuals, businesses and other organisations have money to invest in the district. This will also improve the number and range of jobs by increasing productivity and making sure we have the right skills.
- Strong and Safe Communities: Making sure that the places and the communities where people live and work are safe, welcoming and supportive so everyone feels they belong and are valued. This will be achieved by continuing be welcoming, live harmoniously together and to reduce crime and the fear of crime.
- Healthy and Happy Residents: Working with partners to ensure health and care services are close to local communities and joined up with other services that help people stay healthy for as long as possible. This includes having a good environment to live in. If people are unwell, they will be supported to stay at home as long as possible with a positive and can-do attitude and appropriate care.
- A Great Place to Grow Up: Supporting children and young people to grow up to be happy and successful adults means having good schools; strong and safe communities; local high-quality jobs for those starting work as these will reduce the number of children and families in poverty which will contribute to reducing inequality and help achieve the ambition for growth.
The District Strategy also sets out the partnership’s cross cutting missions: tackling inequality and delivering inclusive services; and reducing and alleviating poverty.
Bradford Council Plan – Our contribution to the District Strategy
Council leadership, resources, powers and influence will play a key role in delivering the priorities set out in the District Strategy and shaping the future of Bradford District.
As part of this, engaging with residents and communities to inform the development of services is essential, as is providing a great customer experience when residents use those services. Bradford Council engages with people in a number of ways - through on line surveys and focus groups during the development of the budget; through community based events such as the ones that were run to inform the “Belong Strategy” setting the framework for community cohesion in which 12,000 participated in consultation; through statutory consultation on changes such as highways and obtaining user feedback on services such as the leisure centres.
Over the period of this Council Plan 2025 – 2030 this work will be brought into a Resident Engagement Plan which will make sure that the Council’s engagement work is strengthened and made more consistent.
To further support our contribution to the District Strategy the Council is committed to continuing our transformation into a digitally smart, agile, and caring organisation, leading systems and places, delivering quality services, supporting inclusive and sustainable growth, and enabling everyone to be healthy and happy. These things will be central to how we develop and deliver the services and investments that will realise our contribution to the District Strategy.
The Council Plan sets out the actions which the Council will take to deliver the District Strategy. These actions are set out in the Delivery Plan in within the report. Progress on these actions will be reported regularly, and the actions will be kept under review to make sure they continue to be the key things that will deliver the Ambitions. Any changes to the actions will be shared in reports on the plan so that these are transparent.
