Principles that guide our work:
These principles have been agreed by the SEND Partnership and align to the principles of the SEND inspection framework set out by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission:
1.1. Listening to families and acting on what they tell us
The SEND Partnership is able to show how the voices of children, young people and parents influence decisions.
1.2. Families at the centre of decision making
Rather than decisions being made about families, the Partnership expects decisions to be made with them.
1.3. Early, timely and joined up support
The SEND Partnership places strong emphasis on early intervention and effective joint working.
1.4. Clear plans with meaningful outcomes
Rather than plans being paperwork heavy and difficult to understand, families should experience, clear, simple explanations of what the plan is, what outcomes are being worked towards, and who is responsible. A focus on outcomes that matter to daily life, happiness, belonging, independence and future aspirations.
1.5. Belonging and inclusion in everyday life
The Partnership’s vision means children and young people should feel welcomed and included in their school setting and community and experience reasonable adjustments as part of everyday practice, not as exceptions.
1.6. Coproduction that leads to change
Families should see how their voices lead to tangible improvements and be given real opportunities to help shape services and strategy. Parent and carer forums should have a critical voice in influencing priorities.
1.7. Services that are available, skilled and improving
The right services should exist and be accessible when needed. Staff are trained, supported and understand SEND and inclusion. Data and feedback are used to improve services over time.
