Spring into Libraries

Libraries across the district will be offering story times and rhyme times with a spring theme for the coming Bank Holiday week. Check out the list of libraries and their activities

Libraries will also be ready to rock and roll with family fun rock indie band Play Date.

Bradford Libraries presents Play Date USA - A music gig for all the family!

Play Date is an award-winning, husband-and-wife, kindie-rock duo featuring Greg Attonito (The Bouncing Souls) and singer- songwriter, Shanti Wintergate. Bring your children to our live music gig and rock along with the whole family!

Inspired by their love of music, creativity and adventure, Play Date has created top-drawer music for the family filled with infectious melodies and empowering lyrics that will get the whole family boppin’, bouncin’, and singing along. Play Date has been featured with, NPR's All Things Considered, USA TODAY, The New York Times, Paste, The Washington Post, Sirius XM, and more. Recently their song, "Dance Like a Monster" appeared on FOX's prime time show, Lucifer.

Not ready to rock?  How about having fun with numbers and words at our sessions in City Library brought to you by our partners Explore Learning.  We have two fun sessions for children 4-6 years and 5-7 years.

Handwriting Zoo Workshop (4-6 years)

We take a day out to the zoo to see all the animals, from the lions to the zebras. The animals guide the children through their perfect letter formation, the giraffes’ tall necks help with the letter ‘h’ and the pigs’ curly tails help with the letter ‘e’.

Word Problems Workshop (9-11 years)

Maths seems to get a little more complicated as soon as it starts using lots of words. This workshop will help children tackle these worded problems to become fearless problem solvers.

More events

City Library Saturday story time on 25 May at 11am will feature Spring stories and craft activities, families will be able to decorate their own papier mâché flowerpots.

Clayton Library will also be getting involved with the Spring theme at their story time on Thursday, 6 June 11am. There will be stories and crafts with each child adding some sparkle to their own papier mâché birdhouses.

Budding authors and poets are invited to join poet Matt Abbott and Impact Gamers at Holme Wood Library for a fun, free creative writing workshop. This Aromatic Authors Workshop is for children aged 6-12 and will help them learn how to write their own brilliant poem or short story and get it displayed in the library. Plus, they will receive an A5 notepad and pen for taking part (whilst stocks last). Free drop-in sessions will take place at Holme Wood Library, Tuesday, 28 May at 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm.

National Science & Media Museum Cottingley Fairies Immersive Story Telling Session

Step into the magical world of the Cottingley Fairies in this immersive storytelling session from the National Science and Media Museum. Join our fairy on her adventurous day out with Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths, the girls who captured fairies in their photos around 100 years ago. Get hands-on with objects from the Museum’s handling collection, explore how cameras have changed over time, and make your own fairy to take home with you. This session is designed to foster children’s imagination and hone their observational skills by engaging with the characters of the story.

Heaton Hub Library is celebrating the school holiday with a community day for all the family. On Thursday 30 May from 11am to 4pm there will be crafts, seed planting, outdoor games, face painting, stalls, a painting competition, a food pantry and a giant inflatable. No need to book just come along.

Silsden Library are staying indoors for a Teddy Bear Picnic for children up to 6, with face painting, stories, crafts, and games on Wednesday, 29 May from 11am to 1pm. Booking is essential as places are limited. Contact the library for more details.
