Interventions

Bradford YJS co-ordinates and delivers a wide range of interventions with young offenders and those at risk of offending.

For more information on the type of court orders young people are made subject to please visit the Youth Justice Board web site.

The execution of these orders involve a diverse range of initiatives, including arts, sports, education and health. All are designed to help the young people engage in a positive way and provide a pathway to life without offending.

Drugs and alcohol

Bradford YJS recognises the high levels of alcohol and other drug use and misuse among young offenders and the relationship this behaviour may have to both mental and physical health and patterns of offending and re-offending.

Those who work in youth justice organisations must work to promote health and prevent ill-health occurring in these young people. To support this, the ASSET screening tool enables the youth justice services to identify young people who are using or are at risk of using alcohol or other drugs in problematic ways.

Three health staff are seconded into the YJS to screen all young people involved with the service.

The YJS has established a referral and care pathway to enable these young people to access the District’s substance misuse services in partnership with BRIDGE 180.
