Access to social housing


Major rented social housing provider, providing access to rented social housing in the District and to their ‘Open Field Services’. This includes: support to find employment, family Learning activities, support to manage money and access to projects in local communities.

Employment opportunities and advice

Job Centre Plus

All former Service personnel have access to the full range of Jobcentre Plus services; In addition, a person who has served in the Armed Forces for any day within the last three years can be considered for early access to the new Work Programme. Service leavers on Employment and Support Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Income Support will be able to volunteer for the Work Programme at any point in their claim.

Partners of currently serving and ex-Service personnel have access to the full range of Jobcentre Plus services and can be considered for early access to the new Work Programme from three months into their claim for Jobseeker’s Allowance.

When a Service medical board decides a severely disabled person can no longer be employed in the Armed Forces and should be discharged, DWP now uses the Service medical board evidence to determine eligibility to Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) rather than conduct a face to face medical assessment.

Regular Forces Employment Association

The Regular Forces Employment Association aims to help men and women of all ranks, leaving the Armed Forces to find and to remain in employment throughout their working lives

This is done as part of the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) for up to two years after discharge and thereafter is done on behalf of the Service Benevolence Funds.

Remploy – Armed Forces and Veterans Service

supports wounded, injured and sick service leavers and disabled veterans and provides them with a range of specialist employment services at more than 60 high street branches and offices, where candidates receive one-to-one support from specially trained ‘Armed Forces Champions’

SSAFA –Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association

Help provide financial, practical and emotional assistance to anyone that is currently serving or has ever served in the Army, Navy or RAF, and their families.

Work collaboratively with Versa Counselling locally to access acute counselling support and access to other mental health services when required.

Provide sign posting to existing mainstream services as appropriate

Provide practical care, advice and support to serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans of all ages and their families.

Actively promote respect and understanding of the Armed Forces Community across the Civilian communities

RAFA - Royal Air Forces Association

RAFA, The Royal Air Forces Association (or RAF Association), is a membership organisation and registered charity that provides welfare support to the RAF Family

CAB – Citizens Advice Bureau

The Citizens Advice service offers practical, up-to-date information and advice on a wide range of topics, including; debt, benefits, housing, legal, discrimination, employment, immigration, consumer and other problems.

Defence Discount Services – The only official Ministry of Defence discount service

To support the Armed Forces Covenant and in recognition of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces Community, the Defence Discount Service gives members of the Armed Forces Community discounts both online and on the high street. The Membership Card is a physical card that members of the Armed Forces Community can take into stores, restaurants and venues in order to obtain a discount.


Blue Badge Scheme

The Blue Badge Scheme is a national scheme which gives parking concessions for people with disabilities.

The Not Forgotten Association

The Not Forgotten Association is a unique national tri-service charity which provides entertainment, leisure and recreation for the serving wounded, injured or sick and for ex-service men and women with disabilities.
