Allotment improvements and inspections

Water butts

Don’t waste rain water this summer. The impacts of climate change are being seen through increased temperatures and more droughts and conversely more flooding. Managing our water supplies and using water wisely is very important and can make a difference.

An average house roof collects in excess of 80,000 litres of rain each year which then runs straight into the sewers. This could fill 450 water butts. If not collected, this run-off can fill up drains and add to flood risk down river. A shed or hut on an allotment is ideal for collecting rain water and a water butt on a plot would reduce the distance allotment holders have to carry water.
