Experience the perfect balance of relaxation and exercise - a wonderful way to unwind, make new friends and stay healthy during your pregnancy.

Let the water take the weight of your body, combining relaxation with cardiovascular exercises to help prepare your body for labour. This is one of the safest ways to exercise during pregnancy and also boosts your physical and mental well-being.

Exercise and relaxation help to release your body’s natural endorphins, which suppress pain, this helps you (and your baby) feel calm - not only helpful in later pregnancy, but also really important during and after labour. Also when baby arrives, the noise of the pool will be familiar meaning they’ll be relaxed when you take them swimming.

The benefits

  • Studies show that women who exercise during pregnancy are likely to have a shorter labour than women who don’t
  • Women who exercise whilst pregnant return to their pre-pregnancy weight much faster than those who don’t
  • There is evidence that exercise during pregnancy has very positive effects such as preventing the onset of maternal diabetes and improving the mood and social networks of the mum (pre and post delivery)
  • Exercise is good for you! It’s not rocket science - it is common sense!
  • Whilst you are pregnant you can still work on toning certain muscles, some in particular will be very beneficial
  • Your back and abdominal muscles support your spine and pelvic floor. During labour these are stretched to their full capacity and you may struggle to manage the increasing loads you need to carry. If you stay in shape and become toned you are more likely to prevent injury

Exercise can help to:

  • prevent depression
  • support your back
  • maintain your figure
  • strengthen your pelvic floor (and continence)

Find time for some exercise, don’t lose the habit even if it’s just a small amount, something is far better than nothing. You are a role model for your children, if exercising is a normal part of your life, they will grow up and make it part of theirs too!

In our classes we will work with you on all of these elements. You will also learn how to maintain your shape independently by continuing the exercises you have learnt after labour and beyond.

To take part in these classes you will need to fill in a health screening form. Please click here for the form. Please take your completed form to the reception of your chosen pool when you attend.
