What is BEEP?

Physical activity programmes on offer include:

  • gym based sessions
  • swimming
  • group exercise classes
  • walking
  • cycling
  • home based programmes
  • weight management services
  • many more exercise options.

Who is the programme for?

The BEEP referral programme is a physical activity intervention aimed at people aged 16 and above who meet the referral criteria.

BEEP aims to encourage and support individuals to become more active, more often.

To access the programme you must meet the following criteria:

  • be inactive or very low active
  • have a long term medical or mental health condition and would benefit from exercise
  • and/or BMI of 25 or above
  • risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease

How do I get a referral?

You can ask at your local GP practice for a BEEP referral. If you meet the referral criteria, a health professional can complete the referral form and give it to you.

Where are the assessment appointments held?

The programme assessments are held daily in GP surgeries and leisure centres across the Bradford district.

What happens at an assessment appointment?

During your first assessment we will do a health screening to help make your exercise meet your needs. We will then take specific measures to enable us to monitor your progress over the year such as current physical activity levels, BMI, body fat %, visceral fat %, blood pressure, resting heart rate and well-being score. You will then be referred onto an exercise provider of your choice.

There will be motivational support throughout your time with us, and also text messages, email, health apps and links to online support to ensure you continue your healthy lifestyle.

What are some of the benefits?

  • reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
  • better control or reduced chance of developing high blood pressure
  • helps control or reduce diabetes
  • improves mobility and can help reduce pain
  • decreases anxiety, stress and depression
