Volunteer at Jamie’s Ministry of Food Centre

What will you be doing?

To assist with the delivery of Ministry of Food classes

  • Offering support to individual service users (such as offering guidance, listening, offering encouragement)
  • Assisting with various tasks in the preparation for classes, running of classes, and clearing up after classes
  • Being involved in 'outreach' work in various venues (such as schools or community groups) – helping with demonstrations and running classes
  • Assisting with the collection of provisions for the classes

Other roles (eg publicity) as discussed with the Manager

A review will take place after the first session to discuss how the volunteer found the role

Times to be agreed with the volunteer

Must be able to commit for a period of ten weeks minimum, this can be extended, this will be agreed with each individual volunteer

You must:

  • have a knowledge of good hygiene practices
  • have good personal skills and must be able to work as part of the team
  • be honest
  • be punctual
  • be smart
  • be reliable
  • be non judgemental
  • be able to respect client confidentiality
  • be interested in food

How will you be supported in this role?

Volunteers will be supported by the centre manager and other members of the team

Training will be given on how to assist with classes, how to help clients who may have some learning difficulties

How to clean down after the classes and all other relevant aspects of the role

Will there be any other benefits?

  • Volunteers will receive an induction upon starting at the Ministry of Food Centre
  • Gain experience and learn about the recipes and ingredients
  • Relevant training will be given to gain experience and build confidence
  • Car parking charges (to be negotiated)
  • Bus fares (on production of receipts)

DBS Checks will be discussed with each individual volunteer
