Snow teams

When weather conditions become very severe the Council’s priority is to keep main roads and bus routes open and our essential services working.

But our resources can become stretched and we are now calling on community groups to help out.

Some groups have volunteered to join us as "snow teams" when the weather gets really severe and snow falls.

We have provided shovels and grit/rock salt for these groups in previous winters and will continue to support groups to help to clear snow.

By working together we can keep more services and areas open and help to support communities at these vulnerable times of the year.

There has been some concern about being able to clear pavements and roads and risk of being sued. There is no law preventing this and you will face no legal liability as long as you follow common sense and do not make the pavement or pathway clearly more dangerous than it was before.

Please note that we will be accepting enquiries and applications until 28 September 2018 but, for operational reasons, after that date we will make a note of your enquiry for future winter seasons.
