Signs of Safety

Children’s Services is transforming the approach it takes to family support and how we care for children and young people within the Bradford District.

Signs of safety will be a new way in which the Council will work with children and families that all practitioners will use.

From how we provide early help and support to families to how we manage child protection plans, Signs of Safety will bring about more consistency in our work together.

Signs of Safety is part of our wider plans to improve health and education outcomes and increase employment and skills.

How will Signs of Safety work?

It will be a shared approach to working with children and families where they take the lead for their own safety and wellbeing. Signs of Safety always puts a child’s safety first.

We want all practice to be child and solution focused. We need all our support with families to lead to lasting change.

It means more direct work with children and families. It will draw on people’s strengths and natural networks of support. Families lead and practitioners support them in their plans to keep children safe and well.

When will it start?

We are in discussions with Signs of Safety experts and working with different organisations across the Bradford District. A programme of training has begun.

Systems and procedures are being reviewed so they can be adapted to support the Signs of Safety approach.

How will we know anyone is better off?

We will track plans and analyse the feedback we get from families and practitioners.

Our expectation is that feedback will demonstrate more focused and effective work with families which will lead to better outcomes which are reached more quickly.
