When looking for a Holiday Play and Activity Scheme, you will need to consider what level of cover you require. Schemes will generally fall into one of these categories, so use this information as a guide.
An Open Access Scheme usually provides supervised activities for children aged 5 - 13 years. There may or may not be a limit on numbers of children who can attend but parents should note that, although all reasonable care will be taken, the children will not be supervised outside the advertised times or kept on site to be collected. Children are free to come and go from the scheme under their own free will.
These schemes may be free of charge or will have a small session charge.
A Care Scheme usually provides full day supervised activities for children aged 5 - 13 years. Parents should note that children must be accompanied to the scheme and will be kept on the premises until collected by a parent or other adult who has parental responsibility, or is looking after the child.
As these schemes are providing full or virtually full day care, they will be considerably more expensive than Open Access schemes.
A Special Interest Scheme usually provides supervised activities where children aged 5 - 13 years develop particular skills and knowledge. The arrangements for taking and collecting children will vary and there may or may not be a limit on numbers.
An Outings Only Scheme usually provides supervised day trips for children aged 5 - 13 years. The arrangements for taking and collecting children will vary and there may or may not be a limit on numbers. Trips may also be organised for families.
There will usually be a charge for each trip.
