Yorkshire Pudding tossing, Vikings and crafty activities will be included in an event to celebrate Yorkshire Day at Bradford’s Bolling Hall.

The event which takes place on Yorkshire Day, 1 August, will give people the chance to try their hand at Yorkshire Pudding tossing, with prizes for the child who can throw the Yorkshire delicacy the furthest.

People will also be able to get up close to authentic Vikings and find out all about how they came to Yorkshire, how they fought and how they lived.

Members of a local re-enactment group will be in the gardens of the museum, recreating what life was like when the Vikings came to Yorkshire in the mid 9th century.

There will be combat displays by Viking warriors using authentic weapons and shields and accurate fighting styles, as well as a Viking encampment with people from all walks of life, with the sights, sounds and smells from the era.

There will also be plenty of other outdoor games, as well as activities such as face painting, family crafting sessions including the opportunity to make your own Yorkshire Rose.

There will also be special trails around the Bradford Council-run museum and a colouring in sheet, as well as a funfair in the grounds of the Grade 1 listed house.

The event takes place from 10am to 4pm with activities throughout the day with breaks for lunch.

The crafting activities will be from 11am to 12pm and 2pm to 3.30pm.

The event and all the activities are free, however donations are welcome and donation boxes can be found around the site.

Coun Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “Everyone is welcome to come along to Bolling Hall to celebrate all that is great about this amazing county of ours. I’m sure everyone will have a great time taking part in all the activities.”
