Traders at Bradford’s Kirkgate Market help the homeless this Christmas

The traders at Hainsworth's, one of the oldest stalls in Bradford's Kirkgate Market, are doing their bit to help the homeless this Christmas.

The traders at the stall have been working hard to collect donations for a giant hamper for local homeless charity Inn Churches.

They are want to encourage as many people as possible to donate tinned and dried items as well as basic toiletries such as shampoo, shower gel and toothpaste. Donations can be dropped at the Hainsworth Stall in the Kirkgate Market or in the Market's Office before 23 December. The traders will then take the giant hamper to the charity.

Trader at Hainsworth's, Amanda White, said: "Christmas is such a happy time for the majority of people, that we sometimes forget those who won’t have such a great time because they are homeless. I really wanted to help to make a difference and show that there are people who care. The idea is to put together a giant hamper to give to the charity as a present for Christmas."

The festive theme at the market is in full swing with traders at The Joke Shop creating a fabulous display of products from their stall in a vacant unit in the market to create a seasonal presentation of their current Christmas decorations.

Ladies' barbershop choir the Pennine Chimes, will add to the atmosphere with festive songs and Christmas carols. Traditional music will be provided by the Gawthorpe Brass Band and The Salvation Army band in the market in the run up to Christmas Day.

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: "This is such a lovely idea and so typical of the traders at Hainsworth's. I hope people can make a donation, to help make Christmas just that little bit brighter for those who find themselves homeless."
