Two schools in the Bradford district are celebrating being featured in a prestigious national publication celebrating the best schools in the country.

Ilkley Grammar School has been named as the best comprehensive school in the region in the latest Sunday Times Parent Power guide.

It is also ranked as the fourth best secondary school in Yorkshire. It is ranked higher than several of the region’s selective grammar schools, based on the performance of its pupils at GCSE and A-level.

There was also success in  The Sunday Times' primary school guide as Horton Park Primary School, in Bradford, was ranked in the top 40 schools in the country and the second highest in the Yorkshire region.

The primary school in Great Horton was ranked as the 39th best state primary school in the country and was also in the top ten in the North of England.

This table was based on the school's performance in the key stage two test results sat by pupils at the end of their primary school education.

Headteachers have spoken of their pride at their schools' achievements.

Ilkley Grammar School Headteacher Helen Williams said: "I am extremely proud of this latest achievement for Ilkley Grammar School. As always, this honour has come as the result of the tremendous hard work and effort of all of our students and staff over the last two years in particular, and it is an accomplishment that our school community will celebrate and relish together."

Horton Park Primary School Salma Rahman said: "We are incredibly pleased with our achievements and for being recognised as one of the top performing state primary schools in England.  Horton Park Primary, an Exceed Academies Trust school, is a place where all our children flourish, aim high and are supported intensively in reaching their full potential. The children of Horton Park enjoy coming to school, learn exceptionally well through creative and innovative opportunities and are extremely proud of their achievements. Our outcomes reflect the sheer determination, collaboration and hard work of all our children, staff, governors and parents."

Coun Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Education Employment and Skills said: "These are wonderful success stories for our district. My congratulations go to the school communities of both Ilkley Grammar and Horton Park Primary. These results do not come without hard work and the commitment of everyone involved. It is great to see what the district’s schools are achieving.

"Across the Bradford district we have seen results improving at every stage from key stage one through to GCSE exams. We know that we have more to do to close the gap with the national average but there is a real belief that we can achieve this."
