Welcome to Yorkshire has today announced the locations of the start and finishes for next year’s Tour de Yorkshire.

The spa town of Ilkley, in the Bradford district, has been announced as either a start or finish for one of the stages of this prestigious cycle race organised by Welcome to Yorkshire and A.S.O.

New for 2018 the race will be extended from three to four stages between Thursday 3 and Sunday 6 May. The Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire will double in size next year, increasing from one to two days on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th May.

Earlier this year Bradford city centre hosted Stage 3 of the race with a spectacular start in the city’s multi-award winning City Park.

This year’s event was broadcast live in 180 countries and a record 2.2 million fans lined the route. The race also generated £64 million for the Yorkshire economy and the Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire remains one of the most lucrative events in the sport.

Ilkley is no stranger to cycle racing as roads in the town have been used for the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014 and the pros tackled the route right by the world famous Cow and Calf Rocks as part of the Tour de Yorkshire in 2015.

Coun Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Sport and Culture, said: “We are delighted that Ilkley has been chosen to host either a start or a finish for the Tour de Yorkshire in 2018.

“This builds on the fantastic time we had when Stage 3 started in our multi-award winning City Park in May earlier this year which saw vast numbers of spectators take to the streets in the district to celebrate and cheer the riders on. These events are an excellent boost for the district financially.”
