Free activities for eligible children over the Easter break
Article dated Monday Mar 20, 2023
Free holiday club activities for eligible children will take place at venues all over the Bradford district during the Easter school break, as part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme funded by the Department for Education.
The activities are free for children and young people who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals and children with special education needs or disabilities.
The holiday clubs are being run by community groups, childcare providers, schools, sports clubs and other local organisations. The wide range of activities on offer includes dance, sports camps, arts and cooking. Every child attending will also get a healthy meal.
There are a limited number of places so families are being urged to book their children’s places before it is too late.
Parents and carers can register eligible children at http://Bradford.haf.fun/login. They can then search what is on offer in their area and book their place. More information is also available on the council website.
Councillor Imran Khan, deputy leader of Bradford Council and portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said: “Our HAF programme helps low-income families keep their children happy, healthy and active during school holidays."
“School holidays can put a strain on any family budget. It can be especially tough for those already feeling the pinch of the cost of living rises. I urge eligible parents and carers to register for these free clubs. There is a great range of fun activities for all ages and abilities. Your children will have fun, be with friends, enjoy a hot meal, burn off some energy and learn new skills. Book early to avoid disappointment.”
Bradford Council has awarded almost £430,000 to 97 organisations to create 5,376 places at HAF sessions this Easter for children who receive benefits-related free school meals and for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Families who are not currently in receipt of benefits-related free school meals, but believe they may be eligible, can find out and apply now.
