A special family activity day celebrating the work of community groups and organisations doing their bit for climate action is being held at Keighley’s Cliffe Castle next month.

Bradford Council is hosting the Family Fun Eco Day from 11am to 3.15pm on Saturday 1 July.

So far 29 local organisations will take part in the event, including Mind the Gap Theatre Company, who will be performing ‘Birdie’, a story about friends working together to make a difference in the climate crisis.

Others taking part in the day include Airedale Beekeepers; Cliffe Castle Support Group; Grow to School who will provide an activity to encourage children to explore the grounds and look for nature; Hedgehogs R Us; Keighley College with information on post-16 courses; Woodville Activity Centre whose volunteers will be selling vegetable plants; Northern Fortress Films who will be screening films by local young film makers; Plastic Free Riddlesden; Theatre in the Mill who will be bringing cargo bikes with a virtual reality experience and a DJ; Trees for Cities and Yorkshire Peat Partnership.

Each organisation will provide a range of activities to entertain or educate families on getting closer to nature and doing things to protect the planet.

If the event is a success, organisers hope to repeat it next year on an even larger scale.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Porfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places, said: “This looks like a fantastic event and the scale of it shows that we have a wealth of local organisations working to make positive changes for climate action, support nature, reduce waste and raise awareness. I am impressed that the organisers have been able to get so many people on board for the day and hope it receives an enthusiastic response.”
