Council supports high-tech engineering firm expansion

Bradford Council has assisted world-leading engineering company, TecnAir to significantly expand its operations in Shipley, West Yorkshire.

TecnAir which develops and manufactures pneumatic and hydraulic automated components across robotics, electronics, medical and bio-sciences sectors for clients such as 3M, BOC, Ford, O2 and Parker, has purchased two adjoining Saltaire properties and is investing heavily in both external and internal refurbishments.

The new development provides the rapidly growing firm with over 4000 square metres of office space and manufacturing space, and is expected to create 10 new highly skilled engineering jobs and apprenticeships.

Bradford Council’s planning team worked closely with TecnAir’s management advising them of the changes required to secure a successful application.

The Local Planning Authority granted planning permission because the proposal represented a sensitive treatment of a prominently sited building along a major traffic route.

The refurbished building provides significant visual improvements and the Council believes the project sets a positive precedent for future developments along Saltaire Road and the wider Shipley area which includes a World Heritage Site and Buffer Zone.

The development brought a vacant building back into use and supports the growth and expansion of a globally recognised, successful local business which will have wider benefits to the local economy.

Bradford Council’s economic development team assisted the company to identify potential sites, secure investment and strengthen supply chain connections.

The development is being hailed as a good example of Bradford’s Economic Growth Strategy in action, illustrating how high-tech companies can flourish by developing lucrative local educational partnerships, utilising cost-effective disused premises and exporting high quality products across the world.

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We are thrilled to see companies like TecnAir develop and thrive in Bradford district and we are doing everything we can to encourage them.

“Firms like TecnAir provide valuable highly skilled and paid jobs, and offer significant economic benefits to the area.”
