Three building projects in Bradford have come out on top in this year’s Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards.

The awards celebrate the best building projects in the jurisdiction of the five West Yorkshire local authorities - Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees.

Local authority building control in West Yorkshire makes more than 25,000 site inspection visits to as many as 8,000 applications for projects needing building regulations approval.

The LABC Excellence Awards were launched 13 years ago to reward builders who achieve outstanding quality in their construction work.

At a ceremony held in Wakefield, Bradford was well represented with 12 finalists and three overall winners.

The Sunbridge Wells tunnels project was chosen as the Best Commercial Conversion project, the new Bradford Royal Infirmary extension was the Best Public Service Building, and a detached house in Hawksworth was picked as the best individual new home.

Each project received help and guidance from Bradford Council’s building control inspection service.

Bradford Council’s building control service provides clients with early building regulation design advice, full plans appraisal and site inspections for building control.

Around 250 guests attended the ceremony which raised £2,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity. Regional winners in each category have the opportunity to go forward to the national LABC grand finals.

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “The Building Excellence Awards ceremony is an excellent event to showcase the range and expertise of construction related projects taking place across the West Yorkshire region.

“We congratulate the winners and celebrate the hard work and dedication of Council staff in the service which helps construction project managers work towards award winning standards.”
