Bradford school takes part in Change Maker Day

Bradford pupils who attend Girlington Primary School have taken part in a special workshop on the dangers of radicalisation.

The workshop, which took place on 26 September, involved children from Years 5 and Year 6 at the school.

The aim of the workshop was to help children understand the complex nature of world events that pupils may hear about. Pupils may have fears or not understand these events and may be frightened as a result. The workshops use humour and drama to put events into context so children are not overwhelmed by them.

The workshop were delivered by charity Just Enough UK, a group of 25 passionate people who came together to make the world a better place in which children can grow up. The charity visits schools and uses drama, storytelling and games to help children deal with the world that’s in front of them, from radicalisation, modern slavery and the environment.

The workshop was set up as part of Bradford Council’s Bradford Pathways initiative, a collaboration between education and business partners. Bradford Pathways purpose is to develop a dynamic and innovative workforce by engaging, educating and empowering all students to excel and achieve their aspirations.

Phil Knight, Founder of Just Enough UK, said: "I am so pleased to see a Change Maker Day happening in Bradford! We have been working in the area for a while now and I am so proud to see schools embracing this work to help make the world a better place for the next generation."

Coun Imran Khan, portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said: “The world can sometimes be a confusing place for young children. These workshops are a fun way of taking the fear out of the events that may scare children or make them anxious.”
