A Bradford business which has helped to support disabled people for almost 100 years has had its work celebrated in the prestigious Parliamentary Review publication.

Industrial Services Group (ISG) appears in the 2016/17 edition of the Review which features case studies demonstrating areas of good practice in the manufacturing sector.

ISG is a commercial business, owned by Bradford Council. It focuses on two areas: ISG works in the windows and door market with a number of high profile social housing and construction customers, and also designs, manufactures and installs outdoor lighting for religious celebrations in Bradford and beyond, serving events stretching from Stratford-upon-Avon to Darlington.

The business has a strong social purpose as it seeks to recruit disadvantaged long term unemployed people across all areas of its work.

As well as its core workforce, the firm has a number of trainees at any one time. These trainees are all long term disabled or disadvantaged who are unemployed and face significant challenges in getting into work.

ISG’s general manager Peter Keeley said: “We pride ourselves on the quality of our work in order to succeed as a viable business. The team at ISG is also very proud of the social aspect of what we do.

"ISG has existed in different forms dating back to 1920 when construction of our Paddock building was commissioned by the Bradford Royal Institute for the Blind, supporting people to work, many of whom had been injured in the First World War.

“Since then we have been helping people in Bradford into work by training and developing them, making them more employable. Many of our trainees sustain further employment and we know we are making a difference by giving people these opportunities.

“To be chosen as a successful business to feature in The Parliamentary Review is a once in a lifetime moment and is great recognition for everyone at Industrial Services Group.”

The Parliamentary Review is sent to over half a million leading policymakers. The articles in the Review are said to be both a blueprint for success and a template for reform. It features a foreword by Prime Minister Theresa May.

Coun Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s executive member for education, employment and skills said: “The work of Industrial Services Group, helping disadvantaged people into work while delivering outstanding products and services is something Bradford Council can be rightly proud of.

"It is great to see this work getting national recognition in The Parliamentary Review. Bradford Council is committed to ensuring people in our district develop the skills they need to succeed and ISG is an outstanding example of this.”
