Support for people who have a visual impairment and/or hearing loss or who are deaf

Who is this service for?

Anyone living in the Bradford Metropolitan District who is experiencing difficulties due to:

  • Visual impairment.
  • Dual sight and hearing loss.
  • Deafness.
  • Hearing loss.

What will we do?

  • Offer advice and information 
  • Assess need. The outcome of assessment may include the following:
    • provide information 
    • offer advice 
    • provide support 
    • provide equipment 
    • provide mobility training 
    • support Independent Living Skills (ILS) training.
  • Register visual impairment
  • Demonstrate specialist equipment 
  • BSL interpreting services:
    • BSL.
    • Lip speaking.
    • Support for people with both sight and hearing loss (Dual Sensory Loss).
    • Deaf relay interpreting.
    • Mail reading service.
    • Palantypist and note taking.
  • Guide Support Service (following assessment):
    • supporting people with both sight and hearing loss to maintain independence through a period of short term intense support followed by training and advice for others who would be involved in longer term support
    • awareness training
  • Deaf Independence Project (following assessment):
    • Support for people who are deaf with additional difficulties.
    • Independent Living Skills training.
    • Communication skills development.
    • Social interaction.
    • Support for families.
    • Relay interpreting (via BSL service).
  • Signposting to other organisations.
  • Awareness training.
