The five West Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Boards of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield have been working in partnership to develop joint West Yorkshire Safeguarding Adult Policy and Procedures. The fundamental driver has been to improve quality and consistency in safeguarding practice across the West Yorkshire region.
Each Safeguarding Adults Board previously had their own separate multi-agency policy and procedures and now the new West Yorkshire policy and procedures will be used by all five Boards. The policy and procedures have been developed based upon best practice from each area and from feedback received during the consultation period.
The common aim for everyone across the region is to work together to promote safer communities, to prevent harm and abuse, to promote independence, well-being, dignity and choice and to deal effectively with suspected or actual cases of abuse.
Safeguarding is everybody's responsibility and to ensure this all agencies - council, police, fire and ambulance services, NHS organisations, housing providers, independent sector, charitable, voluntary and community groups should refer to these policy and procedures.
As of 1 April 2015, the Policy and Procedures have been updated to ensure they reflect the changes introduced by the Care Act 2014.
