A range of public consultation exercises have been organised by the Council for two purposes; to develop the Municipal Waste Management Strategy, and to prepare for the Waste Treatment Project.
Waste Awareness Raising Campaign – 2001 to 2006
In 2001 the Council began a sustained 5-year Waste Awareness Raising campaign. This was funded from a variety of sources, including Bradford Council, Defra, and WRAP.
Have your Say Survey – July 2005
This survey took place in July 2005 whilst preparing the Municipal Waste Management Strategy. District residents were asked three questions which were focused around waste treatment facilities and their acceptability to the public. The survey showed clear support for new technologies as an alternative to landfill.
Speak-Out Survey – November 2006
In the development of the Waste PFI Project, district residents were given a 4-page survey which asked questions about different waste treatment facilities and recycling/composting solutions. Participants were also asked to give written comments that described preferences and suggestions. Surveys were distributed as follows:
