Welcome to the Refuse Collection section of the Waste Management website.
You can find out what day your domestic refuse is collected by the Council by clicking here
Our aim in providing this service is to:
- Promote community cohesion and equality in all aspects of service delivery and employment.
- Contribute to a clean and healthy environment by providing an efficient, effective refuse collection service to 202,000 domestic properties.
Service Operating Times
The kerbside collection service for domestic waste normally operates Tuesday to Friday between 07:30hrs and 17:15hrs. We will endeavour to collect all bins placed out between those times on the specified day of collection. Where collections are delayed due to transportational difficulties, we will always try to catch up on the same day, or the following morning.
The only exceptions to this schedule are when Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day fall between Tuesday and Friday. Alternative collection arrangements for these dates will be published in the local newspaper, along with individual notification to affected households.
Disruption by Snow and Ice
During times of adverse weather there may be some disruption to service due to access problems for our vehicles; if the service is disrupted at these times please be patient as we will attempt to catch up by the end of the week. Where these conditions persist for more than a week, and we are unable to collect that week, we will advise residents of alternative arrangements through the local newspaper and the council website.
Bulky Household Waste Collection
This service can be requested up to four times in any 12-month period, with a reasonable interval between collections (two months). Call Council Contact on 01274 431000 for further details.
Assisted Refuse Collection
An assisted refuse collection service is provided to residents who, through illness or infirmity, are unable to put out their refuse and do not have anyone else to assist them.
If a householder is unable to manoeuvre a wheeled bin for reasons such as being disabled, elderly or due to the topography of the area their property may be made exempt from the usual waste collection service i.e. the householder will receive a collection service via the black sack type method.
In instances such as this the householder should call the Council Contact Centre on 01274 431000, or use the online form below, and the Waste & Street Scene Division will arrange for an Officer to visit the householder to make an assessment of their situation.
The Officer will determine whether or not the householder (or anybody else residing at the address) is able to safely utilize a wheeled bin.
If the decision is made that the householder be made exempt, his/her name and address is added to the Division's exemption list and a copy of the relevant information is passed to the collection crew who service the property. The collection crew will then remove the black sacks directly from the householder’s property.
