  8. Location
All bulky/special collection items need to be located no more than 25m from a place where a refuse collection vehicle (17 tonne) can access. The items listed for collection need to be presented within the boundaries of the property, on the side to which the refuse vehicle normally attends, or from within a recognised refuse storage area. Operatives will not enter homes, sheds, garages, outbuildings etc.
  9. Waiting Time
Waste should be collected within 15 working days of the customer requesting the service.
  10. Discretion
Obviously there will be occasions when requests fall marginally outside this policy. On such occasions Council staff will use their discretion and allow such requests.
There will also be instances when requests are received from the elderly and disabled (they may require items collected from inside the property etc.) or there may be inordinately long carries of waste to be taken in to account. In such circumstances Council Contact staff will refer such matters to operational managers.
  11. Electrical Items
In accordance with government requirements Bradford MDC has appointed an approved disposal contractor for unwanted electrical items. WASTE CARE are specialists in re-use and recycling, and ensure that approximately 90% of all electrical waste are re-used or recycled.

We no longer collect refuse sacks on the Bulky Household Waste Collection Service, if a customer has waste in sacks they are advised to place them in their wheeled bin. Up to two sacks can be placed as side waste by a householder, and these will be collected by the weekly refuse crew on the normal day of collection.

Where a customer has 3-10 sacks of waste to dispose of please contact the Council and inform them, they will inform the crew of the exception. Where more than 2 sacks of waste are placed out by a customer, and the crew have not been informed, the sacks will not be collected.

  13. Garden Waste
Where customers have garden waste they wish to dispose of we will provide them with the correct day to present their waste for collection by the Kerbside Green Waste Service.
If customers have in excess of 15 bags of garden waste or live in an area where there is no Kerbside Green Waste Service, we will pass the case on to an Assistant Manager for assessment.
