Saltaire World Heritage Site Management Plan
The World Heritage Committee has increasingly emphasised the importance of appropriate management of Sites. A Management Plan is the Committee’s recommended method for achieving this.
The UK approach has been to ensure that all its World Heritage Sites have a Management Plan in place. They intend to resolve potential conflicts between competing uses and pressures and as far as possible achieve a consensus between all stakeholders in the Site.
In order to protect the site the Management Plan identifies what is there, what is important and why, what makes those values vulnerable and what policies need to be in place to protect them and use them sustainably for the benefit of the local community and economy.
Saltaire’s Management Plan was completed in 2000 ready for nomination as a World Heritage Site. The Management Plan should be read in conjunction with the Annual Reports, which provide a progress update on its implementation. The Management Plan is to be revised in 2008/2009.
