Conservation Team
Working on behalf of the Government, Bradford’s Local Authority has a specialist team of planning officers who are able to provide advice and assistance on issues concerning Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas within the District. The team are responsible for ensuring that the local historic environment is properly maintained, and keeps records of all listed buildings, monitoring those buildings deemed ‘at risk’.

Bradford Building Preservation Trust
This local trust and was established twelve years ago with the objective to restore threatened historic buildings – listed and unlisted which are vacant and derelict in order to return them back to viable use. The trust is dependant on subscriptions and donations to operate which allows it to bid for funding from a variety of sources depending on the type of project and the level of funding required. Anyone can become a member by contacting them directly. Previous examples of work include: Cliffe Castle Lodge, Keighley and the Ilkley Chapels, Ilkley.

English Heritage is the government’s statutory advisory on the historic environment and is funded in part by central government and revenues from historic properties. They work in partnership with central government, local authorities, voluntary bodies and the private sector focusing upon conservation work with the aims to conserve and enhance the historic environment; broaden public access to heritage and increase understanding of the historic environment. Conservation work includes listed buildings, conservation areas, archaeology, places of worship, scheduled monuments and the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB)
Founded in 1877, this was the first society to raise the profile of historic buildings. Today it is regarded as the largest and most technically expert national pressure group fighting to save historic buildings from further decay and damage. SPAB aims to advise, educate and campaign for historic buildings using practical and positive conservation methods based on the firm principles of how historic buildings should be repaired and practice put in place.

Save Britain’s Heritage (SAVE)
Established in 1975, this charity campaigns for the preservation of the architectural heritage, and has been described as the most influential conservation group. SAVE places emphasis on the possible re-use of historic buildings threatened by decay and demolition. SAVE also holds a national listed building at risk register with the primary aim to join members of the public wishing to repair a building with the right building and scheme.
