If planning permission is required for my proposal what do I do next?

If planning permission is required for your proposal you are strongly recommended to contact your local planning office before submitting an application to obtain general advice, application forms and also to ask about any relevant policies or special designations in the Council's Unitary Development Plan which may affect your proposal. You may also wish to arrange an informal discussion with a planning officer from your local office, who will be able to advise you of all of the issues you need to consider, or seek further advice by letter.

More detailed advice about how to make your application and the planning process can be found in "A Farmers Guide to the Planning System". Copies of this free document are available at local planning offices and through the Communities and Local Government department.

In addition Yorkshire Forward has produced "Making the most of your farm - a guide to the planning system in the Yorkshire and Humber region for farm based enterprise". This free document gives practical advice and examples of successful diversification schemes in the region. It can be obtained from your local planning office and also at Yorkshire Forward's website at www.yorkshire-forward.com.
