Water Management Summit, March 2005

In 2003 Bradford Council commissioned an independent inquiry into Water Management and Flooding in the Bradford District.

During 2004 the Inquiry Team lead by Professor Richard Ashley took evidence from a wide range of partners and stakeholders including relevant scientific research, which looked at:

  • Identifying the risk, nature and scale of flooding
  • Identifying the key actions required to reduce the risk of flooding
  • Identifying the key actions for mitigating the effects of flooding

The findings from the Inquiry were unveiled at the Bradford District Water Management Summit held at Bradford City Football Club on Monday 14 March 2005.

The guest speaker, Paul Hudson (BBC Look North) echoed the report. His presentation pointed out that such drastic changes in weather patterns are due to climate change and it is likely that this will continue to increase in severity and frequency in the future.

The summit provided an opportunity for agencies to respond and commit to the findings of the report. Through commitment to the report, agencies have appreciated the need for greater partnership working in order to ensure improved water management in Bradford District.

In order to ensure that all delegates were able to contribute and discuss the report workshop sessions were held which allowed delegates to decide on the top five priorities from the recommendation put forward and to shared there visions for future on water management within the district. There visions and the there top five priorities will play an important role in the development
